Giant Austrian-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Mining and Metals Technologies GmbH & Co. has announced the receipt of an order from Chinese state-owned steel producer Shougang International Trade & Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of Shougang Group, for the supply of a new five-meter plate mill and for the modernization of an existing rolling line.
The order is in line with Shougang Group's intention to expand its heavy plate capacity and will amount to around €70 million.
The new rolling mill, scheduled to start operating in the middle of 2010, is to be built near Tangshan Shougang Baoye Iron and Steel Co. Ltd (Shougang Baoye) in Tangshan City, and will produce wide plates for shipbuilding and pipeline construction.
The deal includes Siemens' engineering and supplying of the mechanical equipment for the mill's roughing and finishing stands, including the main drives for both stands, a Mulpic intensive cooling section, hot and cold levelers as well as a shearing line. The scope of the supply also includes the instrumentation and automation systems, including all the process models for the rolling mill.
Moreover, Siemens VAI is to supply Mulpic intensive cooling equipment and the main drive systems for a 3.5-meter plate mill, which will allow it to produce high quality grades of steel.
Siemens will also be responsible for supervising the installation work, for commissioning and for customer training.
The installation work is scheduled for completion by the beginning of 2010.
