In January- April of the current year, the volume of scrap collected in Ukraine decreased 26 percent year on year to 2.02 million tons. In the given period, the domestic consumption accounted for 1.84 million tons of scrap collected, down 16 percent, while export deliveries of scrap decreased to approximately 185,000 tons, down 66.2 percent from the same period of the last year. Vladimir Granovsky, the Industrial Policy Deputy Minister of Ukraine, reported metallurgical enterprises' debts for supplied scrap as the main reason for lower volumes of scrap collection and domestic deliveries in the country and uncertain situation with VAT reimbursement for scrap exports and insecure position of scrap exporters as the reasons for dramatic fall of scrap export volumes.
