ArcelorMittal Hunedoara, Romania-based subsidiary of the world's largest integrated metals and mining company ArcelorMittal, is to close its operations for a period of two months, due to the lack of demand at the current time of global crisis.

According to ArcelorMittal Hunedoara's general director Remus Patan, the plant will shut down its operations in a few days' time, while its employees will be sent in rotation on paid leave, in order to avoid layoffs. ArcelorMittal Hunedoara employs about 1,200 people.

The current shutdown of the plant is the first since the financial crisis of the 1930s.
