Rise in new Sri Lankan fabricated metal businesses in 2011

According to local media sources, Sri Lanka's Ministry of Industries and Commerce recorded 1,877 new business registrations in 2011, up more than four percent compared to the previous year.

Data obtained from the Management Info System Division of the ministry showed that the chemical, petroleum, rubber & plastic and textile & apparel sectors equally reporting the highest number of new business registrations in 2011, followed by fabricated metal products and food & beverage. Basic metal products and wood & wood products sectors reported a comparatively lower number of industry start-ups in 2011.
