Republic Steel’s EAF expansion moves forward with new permit

SBQ producer Republic Steel received the final air permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) necessary to install a new electric arc furnace (EAF), a natural gas-fired boiler, material handling and storage area at its Lorain, Ohio mill.

Once installed and operated the EAF will improve Republic's raw steel production by 1.2 million tons annually. Expansion of its Lorain mill has already begun and Republic anticipates beginning melting steel at the facility in Q2 2013.
