Nucor suspends production at DRI plant in Trinidad and Tobago

US steelmaker Nucor has shut down its direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Trinidad and Tobago, following quarantine restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19. The shutdown of production is temporary, with resumption depending on the market situation and developments regarding the spread of the coronavirus, the company stated, adding that Nucor’s steelmaking operations are not affected by the outage, as the company will use DRI from its existing inventories.

In 2019, iimports into the US of DRI from Trinidad and Tobago totaled 1.77 million, SteelOrbis has learned.
