Northeast Asian steelmakers discuss forming a community

The seminar initiated by POSCO Research institute and Korea Steel Association was recently held, with the purpose of discussing the possibilities of forming a steel community in the northeast Asia and thus, promote common benefits of the steel industry in the region. The countries involved are Japan, China and Korea. According to POSCO chairman and CEO Sang Boo Yoo, these three countries should take it as a priority to eliminate tariff and non-tariff barriers on steel products and establish such community. The participants of the meeting discussed the need to sign a Free Trade Agreement in northeast Asia, to collaborate to promote exchanges and to eliminate iron and steel trade conflicts. Top executives of Nippon Steel, Kawasaki Steel, the Chinese Steel Industry Association, Shanghai Steel and Dongkuk Steel participated in the meetings.
