In the January-October period of the current year, China’s crude steel output amounted to 709.50 million mt, up 6.1 percent year on year, as announced by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). In the first ten months of the current year, China’s finished steel output amounted to 902.73 million mt, up 1.1 percent year on year, while China’s overall outputs of metallurgical coke and ferroalloys totaled 364.76 million mt and 28.09 million mt, down 1.6 percent and rising by 0.8 percent year on year, respectively. Meanwhile, in the given period China’s finished steel exports amounted to 64.49 million mt, down 30.4 percent, while its finished steel imports totaled 10.96 million mt, up 0.5 percent, both year on year.
As also indicated by the NDRC, in October this year China's average composite steel price index issued by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) was at 115.70 points, down 0.72 points month on month and rising by 37.01 points year on year. In particular, in October of the current year, the average prices of 6.5 mm high-speed wire rod, 20 mm common medium plate and 1.0 mm cold rolled coil (CRC) were respectively RMB 4,158/mt ($630.0/mt), RMB 4,202/mt ($636.7/mt) and RMB 4,783/mt ($724.7/mt), down RMB 74/mt ($11.2/mt) and up RMB 75/mt ($11.4/mt) and RMB 1/mt ($0.15/mt) month on month, and rising by 51.8 percent, 50.2 percent and 28.7 percent year on year, respectively.
