On April 8, one of the leading Turkish mining groups, Atakas Sirketler Grubu, announced that MMK-Atakas, its 50:50 joint venture company with Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), on April 5 commissioned its port facility in Iskenderun, southern Turkey, located near the steel plant it is building with an investment of $1.7 billion.

The port facility with 1,800 meters of berth, which will also provide service to third parties, is capable of handling 10 million metric tons per year. Its berths can simultaneously cater for 12 ships of up to 100,000 dwt each.

Today, April 9, MMK-Atakas will use its new port facility to ship exports for the first time.
