Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, has announced the commissioning of the walking-beam heating furnace of the medium-section mill at its Romanian subsidiary Mechel Targoviste.
The restructuring of the heating furnace at Mechel Targoviste is a part of the company's modernization program planned for 2007-2011. Mechel has declared that all equipment installed and reconstructed is in accordance with the highest European standards in terms of quality and operation reliability.
The new heating furnace is designed for heating billets before feeding them to the rolling mill and has cost Mechel 5.9 $ million. Italian company Techint supplied the equipment for the furnace reconstruction.
The restructuring of the heating furnace will allow Mechel to increase its billet sizes from 140 mm x 140 mm up to 150 mm x 180 mm. The modernized furnace will reduce the utilization of obsolete blooming technology, thus improving the quality of manufactured products.
