The Ukrainian steelmaker Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant (Makeevsk) has disclosed that it may start supplying pig iron for export in the very near future. In an interview with SteelOrbis, a representative of the mill stated that at the end of last year Makeevsk put into operation additional capacity for the production of pig iron which will allow the mill to start offering pig iron for export. The possible foreign buyers of the mill's pig iron may include one of the largest US steel producers, Nucor Corporation (Nucor). Officials from the US steelmaker visited Makeevsk last October and expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the mill's pig iron. However, neither deliveries nor supply agreements have yet been concluded.
