Leggett & Platt reports 19 percent increase in earnings

Carthage, Missouri-based manufacturer Leggett & Platt announced Thursday net income of $64.9 million in Q2, a 19 percent increase over the $54.7 million in Q2 2011. Year-to-date earnings of $108.9 million also represent an improvement from $99.7 million in the first six months of 2011. Q2 sales were $939 million, a $6 million, or 0.7 percent, decrease versus the prior year. Leggett & Platt said in a press release that it anticipates 2012 sales of approximately $3.65-$3.80 billion.

Sales increased throughout the majority of Leggett & Platt's segments with Industrial Materials' sales up 3 percent, Specialized Products' sales rising 5 percent, and Residential Furnishings' increasing 2 percent. However, the Commercial Fixturing and Components segment incurred a 17 percent drop in Q2 sales.
