Korea’s steel exports up 8 percent

Korean steel producers exported 8.14 million tons of steel products in the six-month period ended on June 30, 2005, Korea Iron and Steel Association reported. The figure indicates an increase of 8 percent over the six-month period in the previous year. While exports of thick plates, deformed bars, section bars, and galvanized iron increased 63 percent, 258 percent, 88 percent, and 22 percent respectively, exports of electrolytic galvanized iron, and hot rolled plates decreased 15 percent and 2.3 percent respectively. Korea's steel exports to China have been recorded as 2.42 million tons in the subject period, down 10 percent over the same period of previous year. However; exports to the EU, the US and Japan increased 23 percent, 16 percent, and 27 percent respectively.
