Japan's Dowa to build new scrap smelting plant

Japan's non-ferrous metal producer Dowa Mining announced plans to build a new scrap smelting plant in northeastern Japan by 2007. The construction of the new plant, which will begin after the necessary approvals are received, will be completed by March 2007. The company will carry on trial run for a six-month period before the plant completely becomes operational in the fall of 2007. The smelting plant will be designed to have an annual smelting capacity of 150'000 metric tons.
