According to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Association, ordinary steel product orders booked by domestic steel consuming sectors in Japan in April this year amounted to 6.35 million metric tons, increasing by 1.23 percent compared to March and up 39.76 percent year on year. Meanwhile, domestic specialty steel orders in April rose by 1.69 percent month on month and climbed 117.3 percent year on year, totaling 1.62 million metric tons.
In April, steel product orders, including specialty steels, in Japan booked by the domestic construction sector decreased by 9.42 percent compared to March, to 945,267 metric tons, while a year-on-year increase of 17.19 percent was witnessed. Meanwhile, steel product orders booked by the Japanese automotive sector in April reached 1,105,191 metric tons, up 1.05 percent compared to March and up 76.79 percent year on year. Finally, Japan's shipbuilding industry booked 503,472 metric tons of steel products during the month in question, up 10.74 percent month on month and increasing by 3.3 percent year on year.
