Japanese mills welcome expiration of CR steel duties

The Japanese Steel Information Center announced that the International Trade Commission's (ITC) finding that Japanese cold-rolled sheets are fairly exported to the US pleased Japanese steelmakers. The ITC originally found “no injury” in a 2002 case; however, many US steelmakers appealed to the Court of International Trade and the Court of Appeals. As a last resort, they took their case to the U.S. Supreme Court. However, the ITC found that imposition of additional antidumping duties, apart from the Section 201 tariffs, would be a violation to the remedial nature of the antidumping statute. Accordingly, the duties expired on October 5, 2005.
