Italy’s steel exports outside EU down 5.4 percent in Jan-Aug

In January-August this year, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from non-EU countries reached 2.128 million metric tons, down 0.5 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports to countries outside the EU amounted to 171,000 metric tons, decreasing by 44.7 percent year on year.

In the given period, Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries increased by 23.9 percent to 467,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to non-EU destinations totaled 860,000 metric tons, down 1.4 percent, both year on year.

On the other hand, in the first eight months of 2011 Italy's flat steel product imports from non-EU sources reached 3.89 million metric tons, up 44.5 percent as compared to January-August 2010, while its flat steel product exports amounted to 1.13 million metric tons, with a 9.9 percent decrease year on year.
