In the second quarter of the current year, the Italian domestic manufacturing industry was mainly supported by export activity, a report by Italy's manufacturing industry association ANIMA has stated. According to polls, 40 percent of the companies monitored by Anima recorded quarter-on-quarter increases in sales revenue in Q2, while 42 percent of them reported unchanged revenues, and 18 percent said their sales revenue had worsened. On the investment side, 77 percent of the interviewees did not report any change in investment levels in Q2 on quarter-on-quarter basis, while five percent observed a decrease and 18 percent noted a rising trend.

As stated by ANIMA's president Sandro Bonomi, "Order cancellations were modest...These are remarkable signs that the situation is normalizing. The manufacturing industry is still maintaining its strength due to export activity, as foreign customers are pleased with Italian production, based on its quality and know-how. Meanwhile, major worries come from the local market, where the flow of orders is still unsatisfactory."
