Italian steelmaker Arvedi has stated that through its Tekne (‘technological steel') project it has developed premium flat rolled steel production based on scrap as raw material, without any CO2 emmisions, halving energy consumption and reducing water usage to a minimum.

In the wake of the success of this project, on June 6 Arvedi inaugurated its ‘Tekne Community', a network of enterprises which includes Arvedi and the main buyers of its technological steel, aimed at financing research projects whose scope will be energy consumption reduction, environment-friendly development, operational efficiency and life quality improvement.

Accordingly, buyers of Arvedi's steel will donate €0.50 for every metric ton of Tekne steel products bought to a fund at the Rome-based Centro Sviluppo Materiali research centre. A corresponding amount will be paid to the same fund by Arvedi.
