The Iranian deputy minister of Industries and Mines Mr. Ahmad Ali Harati-Nik has forecasted the country's crude steel production to rise up to10.5 million metric tons due to implementation of various steel projects in the current Iranian year (ending March 20,2008).

However, even with announced steel projects in place, Iran will still have a shortage of steel products, especially of semi-finished. To satisfy the country's demand in steel, the government allocated $377.5 million for steel imports, the Iranian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance has announced.
