Iran may reduce import duty on I-beam

The Iranian government is considering reducing the import duty on I-beam at the request of the domestic I-beam consumers.

I-beam prices in Iran have undergone considerable increase lately due to the rising trend in the global semis market, and also because up to last Wednesday the main Iranian I-beam producer Esfahan Steel Co. had kept its sales closed for around 40 days.

Esfahan Steel Co. produced about 1.6 million metric tons of I-beam in the last Iranian year (21.03.2007-20.03.2008), while Iran imported about 1.2 million metric tons of I-beam mainly from the CIS countries and China during the same period.
