Iran imports most of its steel demand

Iran's annual demand for steel stands at around 15 million tons, of which only 40 percent is produced domestically, the Managing Director of the Markazi Province Trade Organization said. Iran has to import 60 percent of the steel demand due to the instability and volatility in domestic market because of the rise in construction costs. Iran's government is making efforts to tackle this problem and the Commerce Ministry will also continue to fulfill its duties in dealing with the matter.
