India’s Coal Ministry starts process to auction six coking coal blocks to steel mills

India’s Coal Ministry has commenced the auction process for six coking coal blocks for exclusive bidding by iron and steel producers, a ministry notification issued on Tuesday, August 6, said.

Apart from the coking coal blocks, the ministry will also auction nine other coal blocks for exclusive bidding by companies in the iron and steel sector, the notice issued by the ministry said.

The government will issue a notice inviting tenders later this week and the entire process of auctioning and of the final signing of contracts with successful bidders will be completed by November this year, a government official said.

The auction will be conducted on the electronic platform of state-run MSTC Limited (formerly Metal Scrap Trading Corporation Limited).
