Franco Sebastio, the chief prosecutor of Taranto has rejected the €400 million environmental investment plan filed by the Taranto-based steelmaker Ilva. Sources say that the amount of investment porposed by the company is not enough to reduce pollution levels to the required threshold.

Regarding Ilva keeping a part of its production facilities running, "the authorization to allow Ilva to continue partial operations rests with the ministry and not to the court" said the Minister of Environment, Corrado Clini.
