According to industry reports, Hungarian authorities are contemplating on introducing their final safeguard measures on steel products. The scope of the final measures will cover seven products of steel, replacing the existing provisional measures covering fifteen products. The provisional measures were prepared primarily from locally produced products such as HR, CR flats, strip, rebar and wire rod. It is scheduled to put the final safeguards in effect from April 2, 2003 to remain valid either for two years or until the date Hungary joins the EU, whichever is earlier. The planned date for accession to the EU is May 1, 2004. The procedure for final safeguards is not yet completed and therefore further details to follow soon.
