Guangdong sees slow down in steel export growth

Lower export rebates cut the growth of steel product exports during May-July 2005 at Guangdong Port in southern China nearly in half compared to the first five months of the year. Based on the latest statistics data from Gongbei Customs, steel products export at China's Guangdong Port increased 37.7 percent year on year to reach 301'000 tons through May-July 2005 period. The trade value of exports increased 53.4 percent year on year to $170 million. For comparison, the export quantity through January-April 2005 was 396'000 tons, up nearly 70 percent year on year.
