The Turkish company GAMA Endustri has started actual installation works on primary technological equipment for Foundry and Rolling Facility (FRF) at the Russian pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK). Currently, the installation of a steel-melting furnace and a ladle furnace is in progress at OMK's electric furnace shop, while the installation of a machine for continuous casting of skelps is also underway. In the company's rolling shop the assembly of overhead cranes is going ahead, while the installation of a tunnel furnace is expected before long. The construction of the FRF started in June, 2005 and is expected to be completed by the end of the current year. The OMK FRF will produce hot-rolled coils and will cover the needs of OMK's Vyksa and Almetyevsk pipe plants in rolled products for their small and medium diameter pipe productions. In addition, the FRF will be the world's first facility to produce rolled products for cold-proof and corrosion-resistant pipes. The annual capacity of the FRF phase one will be 1.2 million metric tons of rolls. OMK has invested a total of $600 million in the project. The main equipment was supplied by Italian firm Danieli.
