Euro area industrial output down in November compared to October

In November last year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.3 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-27, as compared with October. In October, production had decreased by one  percent and 0.8 percent month on month respectively. In November last year compared with November 2011, industrial production decreased by 3.7 percent in the euro area and by 3.3 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

As compared to October, in November last year production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.2 percent in both zones, while capital goods rose by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods decreased by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 1.4 percent in the EU-27. In November 2012, intermediate goods decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and decreased by 0.4 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, production of energy decreased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-27, month on month.

Among the member states for which data are available, in November as compared to the previous month, industrial production rose in seven  states, fell in 14 The largest decreases were registered in Slovenia  (-4%), the Portugal (-3.4 %), Spain (-2.5%), while the highest increases were in Estonia (+4.7%), and Latvia and the Netherlands (both with +1.0%).
 
 
As compared to the same month of 2011, in November 2012 production of capital goods declined by 4.4 percent in the euro area and by 3.7 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by 4.8 percent and 4.3 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods fell by 7.7 percent in the euro area and by 6.8 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy increased by 0.5 percent in the euro area, but fell by 0.6 percent in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods fell by three percent in the euro area and by 2.7 percent in the EU-27, year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in November last year as compared to November 2011 industrial production rose in five states and fell in 16. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+8.9 %), Estonia (+6.5%) and Malta (+6.1%), while the largest decreases were seen in Italy (-7.6%), Spain (-7.2%) and Ireland (-6.6%).
