EU-27 construction output falls 2.5 percent in July over June

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 2.5 percent as compared to June and was down 2.3 percent compared to July 2009. In June, the production figure had increased by 2.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.

In the EU, building construction in July dropped 3.3 percent month on month and was down 2.3 percent compared to July 2009, while civil engineering declined by 0.9 percent over June and was down 1.5 percent year on year.

As compared to June, construction output in July rose in Portugal by five percent, in the UK by 4.4 percent and in Slovakia by two percent, while month-on-month decreases of 28.3 percent, 10.3 percent and 3.2 percent respectively were registered in Romania, Spain and Slovenia.
