China’s steel bar exports increase by 5.9 percent in January-April 2026

In the January-April period this year, China’s exports of steel bars totaled 6.05 million mt, up 5.9 percent year on year, while wire rod exports amounted to 840,000 mt, down 10.5 percent year on year, according to the General Administration of Customs of China (GAAC). At the same time, China’s export volumes of angles/channels came to 2.55 million mt in the given period, increasing by 14.9 percent year on year.

In April alone, China’s exports of steel bars and angles/channels totaled 1.81 million mt and 640,000 mt, up 14.3 percent and 7.1 percent year on year, while China’s exports of wire rod amounted to 270,000 mt, down 4.7 percent year on year.

In April, China’s exports of finished steel declined by 9.2 percent year on year, while exports of steel bars rose by 14.3 percent year on year, signaling the international market's capacity to absorb long steel products is strengthening.
