China’s shipbuilding output grows 33.7 percent in January-August

In the January-August period of this year, the industrial output of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises with annual sales of more than RMB 5 million totaled RMB 345.7 billion ($50.7 billion), up 33.7 percent year on year. This growth rate was down 25.3 percentage points year on year. The export revenues of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises during the period in question reached RMB 160.8 billion ($23.6 billion), up 21.1 percent year on year. This growth rate was down 41.4 percentage points compared with the same period last year.
 
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of 2009 the completed shipbuilding output in the sector in China totaled 23.38 million deadweight tons, up 58 percent year on year; meanwhile, newly-undertaken ship orders in this period amounted to 10.98 million deadweight tons, a slump of 82 percent year on year.
