According to a statement issued by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), a meeting regarding coal production in certain provinces of China was held by the NDRC in Beijing at the weekend. At the meeting, the NDRC requested domestic coal enterprises to keep their coal prices stable and also to ensure stable supplies of coal in the context of the surge in coal prices and the shortage of coal in some areas of China.

Winter is the traditional peak season in China for coal demand. The current market price of coal has increased by RMB 100/mt ($15/mt) or 15 percent compared to the same period of 2009.
