Yang Yongxin, an official of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) stated on Thursday, April 15 that the calls made by Chinese steel industry associations requesting Chinese steel producers not to import iron ore from the three iron ore giants and asking traders to limit their imports of low-grade iron ore do not constitute government policy.

Mr. Yang said the Chinese government will obey World Trade Association (WTO) rules regarding innovation of China's iron ore import policy.
