China’s May CPI rises 7.7 percent year on year

In May, China's overall consumer price index (CPI) grew by 7.7 percent year on year. Food prices jumped by 19.9 percent compared with the same period last year, while non-food prices rose by 1.7 percent. On a month-on-month basis, the May CPI decreased 0.4 percent compared with April.

From January to May, the CPI rose by 8.1 percent year on year.
