According to Chinese statistics, the country imported 1.41 million mt of steel in June, reaching 8.7 million mt for the entire first half of the year.
In June, the largest steel exporter to China remained Japan with 575,110 mt, worth $650.3 million in value. Total exports of this country to China for the January-June period reached 3.43 million mt, worth a total of $3.65 billion.
South Korea remained in second place for the month in question with 331,242 mt of exports, worth $318 million in value, registering 1.82 million mt through January-June with $1.74 billion in value.
Taiwan was third with 252,170 mt and $266.8 million in value in June, and 1.65 million mt and $1.64 billion in value through the first six months.
The first three countries accounted for nearly 82 percent of China's total steel imports in June.
