China’s iron ore imports remain strong, steel sluggish

According to statistics from China's General Administration of Customs, China's iron ore imports increased 32.9 percent year on year to 180 million tons during the first eight months of 2005. In August alone, iron ore imports reached 29 million tons. Meanwhile, steel product imports of the country decreased 21 percent year on year to 17. 5 million tons through the eight months.
