China’s Hebei Province to cut steel capacity by 31.86 million mt in 2017

On March 6, at China’s 12th National People's Congress in Beijing, Zhang Qingwei, governor of Hebei Province, stated that the province will reduce its steelmaking capacity by about 31.86 million mt in the current year. Compared to the 50 million mt steel production capacity reduction target nationwide for the year, Hebei will account for around 60 percent of the total. 
 
Previously, Hebei Province had planned to eliminate 19.86 million mt of steelmaking capacity in 2017.
