China’s CPI jumps 6.3 percent in July

In July, China's overall consumer price index (CPI) grew by 6.3 percent year on year. The CPI in urban areas jumped 6.1 percent, climbing up by 6.8 percent in rural areas. In the different categories, the price indices for food, non-food, consumer goods, and services rose 14.4 percent, 2.1 percent, 7.8 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. On a month-on-month basis, the July CPI increased 0.1 percent compared with June, with food prices down by 0.1 percent.

From January to July, China's CPI rose by 7.7 percent year on year, marking an increase of 7.4 percent in urban areas and 8.3 percent in rural areas.
