In April, China's overall consumer price index (CPI) jumped by 8.5 percent year on year. On a month-on-month basis, the April CPI increased slightly, i.e. by 0.1 percent, compared with March. In the January-April period, the CPI rose by 8.2 percent compared with the same period last year.

The April CPI still posted a relatively high growth rate, due not only to the low figure in April last year, but also to the continuous and sharp price increase in food and primary commodities.
