China’s coke exports lowest in August

According to the statistics from Chinese customs, coke exports of China increased 12.2 percent year on year to 800'000 tons in August, while the value decreased 20 percent to $150 million. However, these two figures are the lowest figures in 2005. With August figures, China's total coke exports through the first eight months reached 9.04 million tons, up 8.8% year on year. Meanwhile, the value of exports decreased 27.9% year yon year to $1.82 billion. On the other hand, the average export price decreased 33.7% year on year for the eight months and 28.7% in August to $186.7/ton. The decrease in the price of exports can be attributed to the slow down in global steel markets. Meanwhile, the decrease in the quantity is not only a result of the slowed global markets, but also to government's restrictions on coke exports in order to protect resources and reduce air pollution.
