China’s car output rises in April

China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed that the after more than a year of declines the country's passenger car output rose 6.8% year on year to 263'700 units in April. April's strong number pushed year-to-date output to 845'100 units, a marginal 0.8% increase from a year earlier. NBS attributes the increase in passenger car output to robust output of economy-class cars and popular cars. In addition, Beijing's move in the beginning of March to allow temporary residents to buy cars contributed to the rise in output. Car sales in Beijing rose 29.3% year on year to 38'000 units during April.
