In a context of brisk commercial activity and roaring market prices domestic steel mills in China were operating at full capacity during the month of April which is not only a boom period for steel production, but also a peak time for market demand.
China's crude steel production in April totaled 44.6756 million mt, up 4.1194 million mt or 10.2 percent year on year. Average daily production during the month hit an historical high of 1.4892 million mt, up 41,800 mt month on month and 137,300 mt year on year. Meanwhile, crude steel production for the January-April period reached 169.7778 million mt, up 14.1506 million mt or 9.1 percent year on year.
China's pig iron production in April totaled 41.2676 million mt, up 3.4562 million mt or 9.1 percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in the January-April period reached 159.3086 million mt, up 12.1565 million mt or 8.3 percent.
China's finished steel production for April totaled 51.613 million mt, up 5.4176 million mt or 11.7 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production from January to April inclusive reached 192.3489 million mt, up 20.59 million mt or 12 percent.
China's coke output for April totaled 29.6175 million mt, up 3.2703 million mt or 12.4 percent year on year. Meanwhile, national coke output for the January-April period reached 111.3537 million mt, up 12.8693 million mt or 13.1 percent year on year.
China's ferroalloy output totaled 1.7302 million mt in April, up 380,900 mt or 28.2 percent year on year. For the January-April period, on the other hand, national ferroalloy production reached 5.8746 million mt, up 887,600 mt or 17.8 percent year on year.
In April, China's iron ore output totaled 68.1862 million mt, up 14.4574 million mt or 26.9 percent compared with the same month last year. The January-April iron ore output reached 235.3972 million mt, up 47.6715 million mt or 25.4 percent year on year.
