China to restrict coke exports further

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly announced that China would continue to restrict coke exports due to environmental concerns. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) jointly announced that China would continue to restrict coke exports due to environmental concerns. Officials indicated that since WTO rules and regulations would be applied to coke production, the output of coke in China would be reduced. China is currently the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of coke. The country produces approximately 60% of the coke in the world, yet there is a lack of supply in China. China began capping coal exports last year in an effort to preserve supplies for its booming steel and power industries.
