Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has published a notice today stating that certain measures have been taken against traders who sell with illegal coke export license. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, China had implemented a license system for coke exports to follow up domestic availability of the subject raw material, which resulted in an increase in coke prices. MOFCOM, with the purpose of safeguarding legitimate rights and interests of enterprises issued an emergency circular to strengthen the administration of export of coke. According to the notice, MOFCOM will severely punish those individuals or companies who sell illegal licenses for coke exports. In line with the notice, all departments responsible for export quota of coke and related management enterprises of central authorities should examine coke trading thoroughly and should submit the results of the examination to MOFCOM by latest August 15, 2004.
