China announces new list of iron ore importers

The China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) disclosed the details of the new official list of iron ore importers at a meeting held on Monday.

According to the new list, the number of qualified iron ore importers has been been reduced from the previous 118 to 112. Of this figure, 70 are steel mills while 42 are iron ore traders. The number of steel mills has not changed while the number of iron ore traders has decreased from 48.

Furthermore, the new list states that each importer is required to import a minimum of 700,000 mt of iron ore per annum.

It is also reported that some of the mills on the previous list have been replaced by other mills.
