Brazilian crude steel output falls 2.89 percent in February over January

In February this year, Brazilian crude steel production totaled 2.73 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.89 percent as compared to January and up by 11.4 percent from February 2010, according to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr).
 
Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 2.16 million mt in February, rising by 3.11 percent month on month and up 9.9 percent year on year. Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 1.29 million mt - up 0.39 percent over January and up 12 percent year on year, while its long steel output amounted to 869,200 metric tons, increasing by 7.47 percent month on month and up seven percent compared to February 2010.
 
On the other hand, in the first two months of this year, Brazil's crude steel output rose 7.6 percent, reaching 5.14 million metric tons, while its rolled steel output increased by five percent to 4.05 million metric tons, including 2.44 million metric tons of flat products - up 5.6 percent, and 1.61 million metric tons of long products - up 4.1 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
