On December 12, Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steelmaker Baotou Iron and Steel Co. (Baogang Group) announced that since 2009 up to the completion of the project on December 3 this year its rail plant supplied a total of 96,900 mt of steel rails for the Jining-Baotou railway in Inner Mongolia, which is a double-track railway with a length of 351 km. The 60 kg/m rails supplied for the project allow trains to travel at the designed maximum speed of 160 km/h.
With the completion of the railway project, only three hours are needed to travel from Baotou to Jining, with eight hours needed to travel from Baotou to Beijing.
