Iranian state-owned rolling mill Azarbaijan Steel plans to raise its annual rolling capacity of rebar from 550,000 mt to one million mt through a new development project, the company's managing director Mr. Fathollah Tayebi has stated lately.

A consultant is to be appointed for the new project within the next few weeks after which a tender for the project will be announced, Mr. Tayebi said.

Located at Miyaneh city at around 450 km west of Tehran, Azarbaijan Steel commenced production operations in 2000.

Meanwhile, as part of a government project under the supervision of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), a new mini-mill with a designed annual capacity of one million mt of billet is currently under construction next to Azarbaijan Steel. This mini-mill will supply Azarbaijan Steel with the billet it needs for its expanded rolling capacity.
