Arrium to double iron ore exports by mid-2013

Australia-based mining and materials company Arrium Limited has announced that it plans to increase its iron ore exports from 6 million mt per year to 12 million mt per year by mid-2013.

Arrium's Southern Iron operations located in South Australia is expected to make the first shipment through the expanded Whyalla Port in December. The port expansion is scheduled to be completed next month, with capacity to be doubled to 13 million mt per year by mid-2013. For the financial year 2012-13, Southern Iron is expected to reach a sales volume of 8-9 million mt per year, including lower grade ores from Middleback Ranges (MBR) mine.
