ArcelorMittal Brazil unfazed by Vale's iron ore production cuts

Vale’s reduced iron ore production following the Brumadinho disaster has not affected ArcelorMittal Brazil’s production levels thus far, according to a media report.

Local steelmaker ArcelorMittal Brazil said the company is currently operating normally and “in a stable way.” However, the company said Vale should prioritize Brazil’s domestic market for iron ore supplies.

Last week, pig iron producer CBF Industria de Gusa said Vale’s delivery guarantees for iron ore should end this month. As a result, the local pig iron producer announced it would shut down a blast furnace due to the lack of the commodity.

ArcelorMittal Brazil buys pellets from Vale to produce slab at its ArcelorMittal Tubarão mill in Espírito Santo state.
